oxford-house-new-patientsOxford House extends a warm invitation to all new patients. Based in Milton Keynes, our experienced team has been supporting patients across the region for many years.

We treat the new patient journey as an experience rather than just an appointment, which is why we kindly request you arrive ten minutes before your scheduled appointment, to give you an opportunity to meet the team and take a tour.

The new patient journey

Our impressive Edwardian building has a private driveway, with a substantial gravel car park that holds in excess of 20 cars. On arrival, you will receive a warm welcome from Lynn and Clare, our fantastic reception team.  Both will answer any questions or queries you have.

We will give you a tour around the building to familiarise you with your surroundings, the services we offer, and our state-of-the-art 3D X-ray machine. Not to mention introducing you to Colin and Eric in the Oxford House aquarium. You shall then be taken to the waiting room, where you will be asked to fill out a short medical history form. Don’t forget to grab your complimentary water bottle on your way!

We take punctuality very seriously within the practice. However, when dealing with a range of dental conditions there are times when your dentist may be running a few minutes behind schedule. The team will keep you up-to-date with any delays, although in the majority of instances this simply will not be the case.

Your first dental care appointment

At Oxford House Dental Practice, we pride ourselves on treating the person and not just the mouth. Our dentists each have a minimum of ten years’ experience, so you can be sure that you are in safe hands.

Your dentist will sit down with you to discuss your previous dental history, any relevant medical conditions, and your short- and long-term goals. They will proceed to:

  • Inspection

Inspect the outside of your mouth, neck and jaw joints.

  • Lumps and bumps

Check the lining of your mouth for any unusual lumps and bumps.

  • Health and plaque

Assess your gum health and plaque levels.

  • Oral hygiene

Advise on your oral hygiene routine and any products that may make your routine easier.

  • Erosion, fractures and abrasion

Inspect your teeth for wear like erosion, fractures, attrition or abrasion. We will check if the root surfaces have been exposed by gum shrinkage.

  • Clenching and grinding

Check for signs of parafunctional habits, like clenching or grinding your teeth.

  • Fillings and crowns

Assess any fillings and/or crowns you may have, to ensure they are stable.

  • Bone levels

Determine whether your bone levels offer healthy support for your teeth, using X-rays if appropriate to gain a fuller picture.

  • Or hygienists and therapists

Assess whether you will benefit from seeing one of our hygienists or therapists.

  • Individual dental care

Discuss if you are happy with your teeth, gums and smile; sometimes photos will be taken to help us assess the imaging together and offer individual dental care.

  • Practice membership

Explain the potential benefits of joining our practice membership, if deemed appropriate for you.

By the end of your first appointment, you will have a clear outline of your short- and long-term care plans, as well as an indication of the next steps to take. Your visit will take approximately 40 minutes, including your 10-minute pre-appointment introduction.
